If you thought this post was going to be about the famous 'Soup Nazi' from Seinfeld, I'm sorry to have led you astray. However, Yev Kassem, a.k.a dave frontman, Noah Church will be bringing his solo act to Winter Live: Unplugged this Saturday and it's definitely for you. We promise we won't kick you out.

Having been gigging since his early teens, Noah has been on the Newcastle music scene for a while now. You've probably seen him performing alongside his dave crew, with their 'tough as nails' rock vibe & for the last year & a bit Yev Kassem has emerged onto the scene.

Yev Kassem undoubtedly shows us Church's softer side, with a lot of emotional vulnerability exhibited on his tracks. His first EP, 'Everything I do just makes it easy to forget', came out in February of 2017 and was quickly followed up with 'Stan the Fan', a musical interpretation of the Michael Leunig poem of the same name.

Church is always working on new music & gigging around Newcastle's famous rock venues, to give people a taste of his latest work. Most recently he released his single 'Brave', as a prelude to an EP that's currently in the works and also worked with fellow Newy muso, E4444e on a track under the name Mulchy De Niro.

So, I guess you could say Noah Church is quite a busy guy - but luckily for all us Newy folk he will be making an appearance at Beach Burrito Co to give us a taste of his solo work as Yev Kassem with a hint of dave - for the fans.

Ahead of Saturday, I got to have a lil' chat with Church about his solo project, the best spots in Newy and some of his favourite acts coming out of Newcastle. To catch the full interview, keep scrollin'...

How would you describe your music? Try 5 words or less, if you’re feeling creative.

Unbridled, uncurbed, unrestrained pop rock

What can people expect from your performance at Winter Live: Unplugged?

Dave. songs and a lack of banter.

As a musician/artist in Newcastle, what changes would you like to see occur in Newcastle? Do you think changes need to be made to Newy’s current music scene?

I love the Newy music scene but things can always be a little bit better.

I reckon people need to get out to more shows and not just go see their friends. It’s the only way the scene can thrive as a whole, rather than a small handful of acts.

Do you have any favourite local acts - if so, who & why?

PALS and The Hedonists are my two favourite bands and have been for a while. They both put on such good live shows - I love getting cooked and going to watch them do their thing. E4444e  is also good, but I’m biased.

If you were to suggest a shop, a foodie hot spot and a must-see location to someone in Newcastle - what would they be?

Shop – IGA Merewether, it's how the locals like it

Foodie Hot Spot – Esther C, woops I mean Frothers

Must-see locations – The Lass O’Gowrie

When and where can we catch you for Winter Live: Unplugged?

Beach Burrito at 7:30pm!
