Top 5 Gigs to go to this week, by Brooke Tunbridge / by Brooke Tunbridge

Bec Sandridge

Not Bec Sandbridge or Sangridge as I’ve seen posted elsewhere. The only other acceptable alternative is Bec Sandwich as she has used this one herself. You would have heard her covering John Farnham’s “You’re The Voice” for Like A Version, or seen her at one of the many festivals she’s recently played at. Bec has also just scored the support act for Tegan & Sara on their Australian tour, which is huge! Give her EP In The Fog a listen before you head to the show, it’s full of gems (my favourite being “You’re A Fucking Joke”).

When: Thursday 23rd February
Where: The Cambridge Hotel
Tickets: $10 on the door

Central Coast duo James and Jordan have spent the last couple of months writing tracks for their new album. Head along to hear some of those tracks mixed in with their older songs. They’re always a great act to watch.

When: Thursday 23rd February
Where: Lizotte’s
Tickets: Lizotte’s website

Big Chief and the Bottle Openers w/ dave + Voodoo Youth + OILBARON
Single launch for locals Big Chief and the Bottle Openers, presented by Steel City Music. Get amongst it.

When: Friday 24th February
Where: Croatian Wickham Sports Club

Asta w/ Thomas Macokatic + De’May

Real life angel Asta is coming back to Newcastle and (thankfully) this time her show isn’t at King Street. Two local support acts up first so make sure you’re there early (also gives you time to devour the amazing food right outside The Small Ballroom).

When: Saturday 25th February
Where: The Small Ballroom
Tickets: Oztix or on the door on the night if it’s not already sold out

Bandapalooza II w/ Wolves In Fashion + dave + The Moving Stills + Zappo + Breizers + Southern End

Presented by Steel City Music, round two of Bandapalooza at The Lass. As well as the solid line-up of bands there’s also art stalls from Matthew Lowe, Ben Campbell and Sophia O’Connor.

Where: Lass O’Gowrie Hotel
Tickets: $5 entry
