TNL Featuring King Single, Antonia & the Lazy Susans and Jen Buxton & the Slaughterhouse Five, A Review by Kian / by Kian West

For the love of local music we put on an event one Thursday a month at The Cambridge Hotel in collaboration with our fine friends Love + Rent. This month saw King Single return to our event this time as headline, joined by the incredible Jen Buxton & the Slaughterhouse Five as well as Antonia & the Lazy Susans.

I walked in as Antonia & The Lazy Susans kicked off their set, a powerful four-piece of indie rock set to an incredible female vocalist. It's hard not to draw comparisons to other female driven rock music of today, so I'll just say that their energy was engaging in a way not enough bands truly understand.

Having heard a lot of hype around Jen Buxton, I'd always been curious to watch her perform, so many people highlight her as a catalyst for their own creative expressions or inspiration for their music and as I watched I could understand why. Clearly taking inspiration from strong independent women, hints of country and a few comments on "the patriarchy" Jen held us in the palm of her hand with both music and comedy throughout.

As I mentioned, King Single was back to headline and he really brought it home. I don't really know how to describe what he does other than "Magic" and as his last song finished as he packed up and it was this chill totally cool moment that everyone should see.

The Cambridge do Live music every Thursday so make it part of the routine and support locals making tunes!
