THE PRICKLE SHED

w/ BROOKE TUNBRIDGE

LIZ AND JUELENE, ONCE BIDDING AGAINST EACH OTHER FOR THE SAME HOUSE – NOW NEIGHBOURS, BEST FRIENDS AND BUSINESS PARTNERS. THE PRICKLE SHED SPROUTED FROM A BRIEF CONVERSATION BETWEEN CREATIVE MINDS AND IS NOW BALANCED BY THE PAIR IN BETWEEN WORK AND LOOKING AFTER THEIR KIDS.

Taking a moment out of her busy day of deliveries (yes – they deliver), Liz answered a few questions about the business idea of an alternative to a bouquet of flowers…

How did you two meet?

Juelene and I met at the auction of my now house as we bid against each other till the bitter end! (I won.)

What sparked the idea to start The Prickle Shed?

I have always loved and grown my own plants, obviously. Juelene and I became besties pretty soon after meeting and I knew she could run a business and I could supply the goods. So, The Prickle Shed was born.

How long has it been in action?

Since February 2017. We were in stores within eight weeks of the idea.

I believe you both have day jobs as well... How's it going finding the right balance?

I have been a full-time mumma for the past six years, which is the most full-on job I have ever had! Juelene is a lawyer, colour consultant, interior designer and the bossy one out of us, so she keeps everything in line and on track!

Can you pick a favourite plant from your collection?

My fave plants are the string of bananas at the moment!

And lastly, what's your favourite thing about Newcastle?

My husband and I moved to Newcastle six years ago so we could bring up our kids here. We live in Cooks Hill so are very fortunate to be close to the amazing beaches, cafes, and my fave stores. Really hard to choose my favourite thing... Let's say the lifestyle!

The Prickle Shed does deliveries from their online store. Orders are stocked in Sobelle Living at Lambton, and every now and then, they open The Prickle Shed to the public (which is announced on their Instagram and Facebook).
