GRAHAM WILSON

Tell me a little bit about yourself Graham...
Graham: I’m a Local Artist living in New Lambton/Kotara. I’m married with three kids.

How long have you been an artist?
G: I basically haven't stopped making art since I was a boy. I have been exhibiting annually for 30 years.

 Can you describe your style?
G: My style varies with the different media I use. I am (at varying times) a printmaker, painter, sculptor, stone carver, graphic artist, set designer, and amateur architect. My style canrange from representational to abstract, modern to medieval, and contemporary to retro’.

Have you got a special connection to the Phantom exhibition coming to Newcastle Art Gallery?
G: I have always been a fan of the Phantom. I am a long time friend of Dietmar Lederwasch and I have done a variety of ‘Phantom based’ graphics jobs for the travelling exhibition.

Who are your favourite Novocastrian artists?
G: Gee…that’s like asking which child is your favourite. I really admire the work of Paul Maher, Braddon Snape, and John Morris. There are many excellent artists in Newcastle. They can’t all be named here.

What’s next?
G: I have just spent four years as a retailer in The Emporium (a the Renew Newcastle project). I am currently a part of an exciting new project called The Creator Incubator. It is a group of nine artists/designers sharing a studio spaceand offering mentoring, workshops, and tutoring. I want to use my new space to make some large scale works and begin experimenting with low cost architectural solutions.

THE PHANTOM SHOW is at the NEWCASTLE ART GALLERY FROM JUNE 10 - AUGUST 20 2017.
