With the Out & About Girl, Kira Jones...
Civic Theatre March 1st – March 4th Tix via www.civictheatre.com.au
Yes, I understand my column is a monthly recommendation of everything wonderful and worthwhile in Newcastle. But if you want to catch Jasper Jones at the Civic Theatre in March, you’ll need to book. Like, now. The acclaimed Australian novel by Craig Silvey has been made into a play (and recently, a film). By popular demand, Sydney’s Belvior Theatre extended the play’s season and, by the grace of all things good, have taken it on the road. Jasper Jones could very well be the most imperative and worthwhile recommendation I’ve ever made.
The Jungle Dance Studio
1/151 Hunter Street - Find them on Facebook and Instagram
A stunning studio in the heart of Newcastle, The Jungle caters for all dance interests at all levels. This ballet dancer laughed and (attempted to) twerk her way through an open Hip Hop Commercial Class instructed by Georgi and Kate. These girls advocate for fun and their passion for movement is infectious. 2017 brings new classes to the Jungle including Contemporary, Street Sass and where I’ll be… A HEELS CLASS. Yes! BYO heels and a Sasha Fierce persona. Mention my column and receive a half-price class throughout February!
Thursday Night Live at The Cambridge
The Cambridge Hotel Thursday, 9th February Free entry between 9pm – 10pm
Once a month, Newcastle Mirage and Love+Rent curate Thursday Night Live at The Cambridge Hotel. The aim of the night is to champion local artists – the likes of Amos & Emily, Wavevom and the formidably talented Holly Who are amongst the ranks of eclectic, friendly and wonderfully gifted groups who have featured previously. I’ve met wonderful people at these gigs and, as always, have been overwhelmed by the talent of our town. Check in with the Newcastle Mirage Instagram for more dates throughout the year.
