Have you heard the term "Internet of Things" (IoT) before?
It refers to devices being connected to the internet. Not just your phone or computer, increasingly other products are connecting to Wi-Fi and changing our lives. In our own home we have an air conditioner capable of connecting to the internet and we can turn it off/on adjust the temperature while we are out. I can print documents to the home computer while I'm in another room or a different state.
Much like this, Newcastle is quietly preparing for an interconnected future. A week or so ago I was speaking with a Newcastle City Council employee who was excitedly speaking about how the new signs and streets are having cabling laid that will help connect the city and our future.
Pretty cool to imagine what Newcastle could be like in 10-20 years from now.
