Some of the musical talent in Newcastle makes you think something must be in the water.
Local songstress Grace will be playing us a few tunes on September 24th in celebration of the Tip Jar songwriting contest with our good friends Love+Rent at The Cambridge Hotel.
Grace, tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 17 years old. I go to Hunter school of the performing arts. I sing, play bass, guitar and a bit of drums.
How do you approach songwriting?
I almost always write the music first, leaving the lyrics till last. They always take a long time to write. At the moment I have a pile of songs that are completed except for the lyrics.
Can you describe your musical style?
I’d say my musical style is a bit of a mixture of rock, pop and jazz.
Who are your biggest influences?
My biggest influences are Daryl Aberhart, Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Hiatus Kaiyote and Tom Misch.
Where do you find your musical inspiration comes from?genres,
Which song do you most wish you wrote?
At the moment I’m thinking “On the Dunes” By Donald Fagen or any Steely Dan song.
There is a show coming up?
Not yet only this one at the Cambridge.
What should people expect?
I’ll be playing acoustic guitar and singing some covers and some originals.
What is next?
Just starting to get a band together and I am really excited about it!! I’m trying to write and finish my songs to have enough for an EP or album.
Grace is also playing at our Collaboration event with Love+Rent on September 24th at The Cambridge Hotel showcasing local songwriters in the final days of the Tip Jar Song Contest.
