Make Your Place - Big ideas for small projects

YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW THAT NEWCASTLE MIRAGE WERE REWARDED WITH A MAKE YOUR PLACE GRANT EARLIER THIS YEAR FROM NEWCASTLE CITY COUNCIL. WE ASKED SUSAN DENHOLM, THE PLACE MAKING FACILITATOR FROM THE CITY OF NEWCASTLE STRATEGIC PLANNING SERVICES TO GIVE US A BIT OF RUN-THROUGH OF WHAT THE PROGRAM MEANS BEFORE THE AUGUST DEADLINE.

The way our city looks has a direct link to the way people in our city feel - vibrant places = vibrant people.

Newcastle is brimming with creativity, passion and enthusiasm and there is an opportunity for all of us to make a difference.

If you live, work or play in an area and have a great idea of how it could be activate then consider the City of Newcastle’s Make Your Place grants.

It’s about turning spaces into places that people want to be through low cost, quick-win, high impact initiatives.

The Make Your Place grants provide funds of up to $2,000 for projects that add vibrancy through hands-on involvement in a project that benefits the local area.

There may be a pocket park that could use some TLC or a graffiti walled that would benefit from some mural art.  You may have an idea for a public performance or installation.

The choice is yours.  Think about the skills you have around you which you could bring together to make a difference.

The next grant round closes on Monday 18th of August. Visit www.newcastle.nsw.gov.au and search for place making for all the details.

There are many little (and not so little) Make Your Place projects all across our City. Go and visit some recent Make Your Place projects and admire the dedication and talent those that live, work and play in this amazing place!
