Presenting a balanced representation of Newcastle has always been really important to us at Mirage. We don’t always hit the mark, but in 2018 we want to make sure that there is an added focus on local women doing incredible stuff. We are hunting down some of the biggest ‘influence-hers’ in our city – women crushing goals in whatever field they’re in. To kick the year off, I asked a few Boss Babes about what they’re doing.
Name: Tiffany Norton
Role/Business: Barberchick at Tiffany Jane Barber
Why do you do it?
Because anyone who says it's just a haircut is wrong! It's an experience and each head of hair is different with its own personality – I love taming that or making in wilder to suit each individual I meet. Plus I get to meet some pretty cool cats.
What drives you?
To exceed someone's expectations, make them smile and feel good about themselves through something as simple as a good haircut.
The best advice you’ve ever been given?
I get a lot of advice in my job and give a little back sometimes, but I still feel the best bit of advice is to be yourself, because there's no better version of you than you!
Favourite place/space in Newcastle?
Favourite place would be Glenrock – sunlight, trees and fresh air make for one happy Tiff.
What do you wish you had learned earlier?
To always trust in your instincts and roll with it.
Who inspires you?
Friends around me who are kicking butt, whether it be starting small businesses or kicking life travel goals. I am constantly inspired by the women and men around me.
When you aren't working what do you most love to do?
See a gig! I moved to Newy for a coastal change from the city and I'd heard its live music scene and cafe culture was great – and it doesn't disappoint! So spot me at the Cambo for a gig or frequenting a local coffee shop.
