Presenting a balanced representation of Newcastle has always been really important to us at Mirage. We don’t always hit the mark, but in 2018 we want to make sure that there is an added focus on local women doing incredible stuff. We are hunting down some of the biggest ‘influence-hers’ in our city – women crushing goals in whatever field they’re in. To kick the year off, I asked a few Boss Babes about what they’re doing.
Name: Alanna Hennessy
Role/Business: Owner – The Mass Performance Centre
Why do you do it? What drives you?
I became a personal trainer after I went through my own personal journey to health and fitness. I wanted to help other women and men feel in control of their bodies. To help them regain not only their health but self-confidence, and to generally feel good about themselves and an improved sense of wellbeing.
The best advice you’ve ever been given?
The best advice I was ever given was to back yourself 100%. Believe in yourself, and fully commit; don’t wait until you have it all figured out. Rather, trust you will work it out along the way, one step at a time.
Favourite place/space in Newcastle?
My favourite place and where you will find me most mornings after clients is the Anzac Memorial Walk. I love being outdoors and by the ocean, there is something very therapeutic about walking along the beach.
What do you wish you learned earlier?
I wish I learned to trust myself earlier, to believe in myself and not let my self-doubt get to me.
Who inspires you?
My clients. Every day my clients inspire me with their willingness to overcome physical and mental hurdles. We are all in this together and we inspire each other.
When you aren’t working, what do you most love to do?
I love being out and about! My day off would usually be going to the Newcastle farmers’ markets, trying out a new café and going on a long beach walk.
