Concerned about the greener 3-bin service starting on 30th July in Lake Macquarie? Or perhaps you're excited for this change and want to know even more about it. Over the next three months, Council’s Green Team will be popping up in a variety of locations across Lake Macquarie to provide advice and answer any questions the community may have.

Not sure what we're talking about? The new waste service means thatr from 30th July, all food scraps and garden waste will go into the household green bin, which will be emptied weekly. Garbage bins and recycling bins will be emptied on alternating fortnights.

The new service will reduce the amount of waste going to landfill by an estimated 17,000 tonnes a year and offset increasing annual waste disposal costs.

Manager Planning and Sustainability, Alice Howe, said Council is providing a range of support services to help residents adapt to the change and make this transition smooth for our community.

“Staff will be on hand for a few hours each week at community events and shopping centres, so people can ask questions and find out more about the Food+Garden=Green service,” Dr Howe said.
