A creative space to release her creative energies, Sophia Emmett formed Workshop 85 back in 2012 as a place to craft and design all her pieces. After completing her traineeship at the Jam Factory, Craft and Design Centre in Adelaide and studying Visual Arts at Monash University, majoring in hot glass, Sophia spent time travelling Australia and the USA to further pursue her career in design. Over the years, Sophia has worked with a number off master glass blowers and has undertaken many artist-in-residency programs, including the Canberra School of Art and a fellowship at the Creative Glass Centre of America. Combining her fascination for the relationship between texture and form and her innovative approach to materials, Sophia has recently found a love for jewellery. Her small sculptural forms come in a range of varieties including mesh jewellery, graffiti jewellery and coal jewellery. The mesh range in particular fill a hole that Sophia felt needed filling in the accessory world; statement pieces that were not just dramatic, but also comfortable to wear. Her lightweight and easy to wear range includes necklaces, cuff links and earrings and show off her truly innovative approach.
