DAWN LAIRD by Ryan Williams / by Ryan Williams

Beach Street 6 is this weekend. Saturday to be exact. Presenting itself this time with it’s most diverse line-up yet (featuring Triple J stud Matt Okine as Boilermakers), all is set for a spicy day catering to a wide range of musical tastes. I caught up with rapper and beatmaker Dawn Laird to prepare my mind and body for the weekend.

How do you describe yourself?
Left hand, right brain, loudmouth, headcase. Also rapper and producer.

When did you start making music?
I started making beats on any and every software I could get my hands on as a teenager. I also wrote little keyboard ditties that were more ideas than actual songs. That all came together with lyrics in my late teens.

Who are your influences?
Erykah Badu, Run The Jewels, Fiona Apple, Stevie Wonder, Jimi Hendrix, J. Cole.

What should people expect from your show at Beach Street?
Rap shit.

Who are you looking forward to seeing the most?
Boilermakers and The Owls.

What is next for you?
Beach Street 6! Also BadGirl Garden @ SLYFOX on 6th July and Inner West Winterfest @ a secret location on 15th July. My second EP 'Doreen' is out later this year.
