Ahead of Darby Street Live on the 24th of March, we are getting up & personal with some of the incredible local talents that Newcastle has to offer, what they are all about & just what to expect from the first ever Darby Street Live Festival - which is set to go off with a bang, so make sure you add this event to the calendar. 🎉
First up on our list of incredible local talents performing on the day is, Georgie Jones, who will be playing at Pushing Pansies from 2:30pm.
Surrounded by beautiful botanics and bridal pieces, Georgie will be the perfect accompaniment to your Sunday afternoon chill session.
In an intimate performance, Georgie will treat you to some of her Norah Jones worthy original scores, with sweet musings of 'All My Love', as well as some new goodies. If there is one thing we know for sure, the Jones' sure know how to make songs with spirit and soul.
Jones' sound is unique and unbridled - a true ode to soul & blues that will take you back to the nightlife of Mississippi in the early 1900s. This step back in time is one that is invited on our Newcastle doorstep, but we see Miss Jones taking this sound much further, with success to surely follow this talented artist.
Having returned from San Fran, after doing cool music things, we got to chat to the songstress of soul ahead of her performance at Darby Street Live. You can check out our chat below...
How would you describe your music?
My music is eclectic. When I play with my band, we play original songs in the country and blues vein. When I play solo, I play completely different music, exploring experimental sounds with vocal looping.
What can people expect from your performance at Darby Street Live?
A solo show, unfortunately no rocking band, but fortunately something interesting and unique.
Who’s your favourite local music artist & why?
It’s hard to choose just one, a lot of them are my friends. I guess that’s what is unique & loveable about the Newcastle music scene. It’s closely united. Often bands share members & many artists collaborate with each other. I will name some favourites though: Grace Turner, Jason Lowe, Luunes, Morgana Osaki, Mr Sauce, to name only a few legends.
What is your favourite thing about Newy - what would you recommend to the tourists out there?
The Ocean, it almost makes the coal dust worth it.
When and where can we catch you for Darby Street Live?
At Pushing Pansies from 2:30pm - 3pm & 3:15pm - 3:45pm
There you have it, to check out more about Georgie Jones - you can find live recordings, gig updates and other goodies on her website or social links below. Meanwhile, I recommend you check out her incredible voice on SoundCloud and catch her at Darby Street Live on the 24th!
