Thursday Night Live: With Love & Rent / by Laura Kebby

Another week has gone by and another fantastic installment of Thursday Night Live at the Cambridge. As I sauntered in, wrapping my hands around a delicious green tin, Sarah Christine filled the air with a delicate sense of wonder and acoustics. I’d never heard Sarah play before, and I was honestly blown away by her presence on stage, and her delivery of a string of perfectly woven original tunes.

Stepping in at short notice to cover our friends Hey Lady, Sarah was just what my Thursday night needed. A break away from the world and the drama we sometimes surround ourselves with. So from me to you Sarah, thank you.

Another wonderful thing about Thursday Night Live, is the eclectic nature of the bill. And none are probably more eclectic then Treasure Troves. I think he actually surprised himself with the energy and tenacity he presented on stage. Fierce guitars, unapologetic vocals, and just an absolute ripper of a performance. It was so great to see the man behind my interview from last month, materializing his creative vision on stage. I dug it, the punters dug it, and everybody had a really great time, listening to great music.

The best thing for me as well, is seeing the crowd embrace local music. At the end of the day, anyone can embrace a touring headline act, line up for hours, and dance about to the hits travelling through the radio waves but… it takes a special kind of person to embrace the local music scene. And what a better way to do that, then to hang about on a Thursday evening and see some of the best cram in some really incredible tunes.

Coming off the back of an 18 hour work day, with another one to follow, I didn’t catch Dave. But I’ve since realized how much I’m regretting that decision, after hearing from a very reliable source that they are in fact, “The best band in Newcastle”. Our Thursday Night live collaboration with Love & Rent, in its essence, is about getting a tasty little soundbite of local music to boost your midweek. And hopefully, next month, I’ll see you there too.
